Amenogoro 雨の五郎 (あめのごろう) | Mori Yoshitoshi 森義利 (もりよしとし)
Description:
This work is created using the Kappaban technique, a unique method established by Yoshitoshi Mori. The process involves cutting patterns from Shibugami, which is paper strengthened with persimmon tannin, using a small knife. Pigments are then rubbed in with a brush, similar to a stencil technique, to create a soft texture and powerful colors. Finally, black ink is used for the outlines (Kotsusen) to define the composition. The subject, Amenogoro, is a famous Kabuki dance character based on Soga Goro Tokimune from the Soga Monogatari (The Tale of the Soga Brothers), one of Japan's three major vendettas.
