The vario preselector is adjusted manually or automatically to the desired frequency. In automatic mode, a motor moves the preselector to the programmed setting, and the pointer on the preselector knob magically moves to the correct position, accompanied by a slight hiss. The automatic system is very reliable on long and medium wave; on short wave, the signal can often be strengthened by slightly manually adjusting the preselector.
