石狮面具 - 木 - 日本 - Shōwa period (1926-1989)
Good condition.
Description:
This object is a Japanese shishi / lion dance head, finished in vivid red with black, gold, and white painted details. It has a bold expressive face, with large round eyes, raised brows, a broad nose, and an open mouth showing gold-toned teeth. The pointed red horns and white hair on the top give it a lively and festive character.
The side view shows its sculptural form clearly, with painted swirling patterns along the cheeks and a strong protruding snout. The reverse side reveals the hollow interior, suggesting that it was made as a mask or ceremonial dance head rather than a solid decorative sculpture.
It is a charming folk-style piece connected to Japanese festival and lion dance traditions. The bright red lacquer-like surface, dynamic facial expression, and handmade details give it a strong decorative presence, suitable for display as a traditional Japanese folk art object.
