French Silver-Plated Chafing Dish / Warming Tray – A. Gelb – Oval Pierced Design – ca. 1940–1950
Elegant French silver-plated chafing dish / warming tray by the silversmith A. Gelb, active in La Queue-en-Brie during the mid-20th century.
This refined oval piece features a beautifully pierced (ajour) gallery with a geometric pattern, typical of the transition between late Art Deco and classic French tableware design. The shaped rim and raised feet give the piece both elegance and stability.
Originally designed as a chauffe-plat, it was used to keep dishes warm at the table by means of burners placed inside the base compartment. Today, it also serves perfectly as a decorative centerpiece or for elegant table presentation.
