Modern custom-made silver pendant with authentic ancient Roman coin. The coin may be removed from the pendant frame if preferred.

Coin: silver Tetradrachm Emperor Caracalla, Seleucis and Pieria, Antioch, 198-217 AD.

Obverse: ΑYΤ Κ · Μ · Α · · ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟC [C EB], head of Caracalla, laureate, facing right.
Reverse: ΔΗΜΑΡΧ · ΕΞ · ΥΠΑΤΟC TO Δ, Eagle standing, facing, head right, on leg and thigh of sacrificial animal.

Diameter pendant: ± 25,3 mm
Condition: very fine, scarce coin with a good portrait of the Emperor Caracalla. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.

Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).

-> Coins, symbols of power - struck in metal. From Emperors to Kings, rulers struck their image and ideals into coins, turning currency into one of history’s most enduring propaganda tools. These small objects passed daily through the hands of ordinary people, spreading messages of authority with every exchange.

-> CARACALLA: Roman Emperor 198-217 AD. His brother Geta was co-emperor from 209 AD, but was murdered after the death of their father Septimus Severus (211 AD). His mother Julia Domna played a prominent public role and took on administrative tasks that Caracalla found too mundane.
His reign is notable for the Edict of Caracalla, granting Roman citizenship to all free men throughout the Roman Empire, but he is mostly remembered as a cruel tyrant.

-> SELEUCIS AND PIERIA was a coastal region of Syria, named after Seleucus I Nicator, and included key cities such as Antioch and Seleucia Pieria.
During the reign of Caracalla (AD 198–217) it remained an important Roman provincial centre, known for its wealth, Hellenistic heritage, and strategic position linking the Mediterranean to inland trade routes. The area flourished with urban life, temples, and monuments, reflecting both its Greek foundation and Roman rule.
