This Shigaraki tea bowl was produced by the fifth-generation head of a kiln in Shigaraki, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. The object was fired in a wood-fired climbing kiln (noborigama), resulting in natural characteristics such as "hiiro" (fire color) and "haikaburi" (ash glaze/vitrified bead glaze). The area around the foot (kodai) features "shinogi" (chiseled ridges) created with a spatula. The piece has no applied paintings, focusing on the texture of the clay and the natural transitions of the glaze.
Artist Profile:
Born in 1954 in Shiga Prefecture. He is the fifth-generation head of a long-standing Shigaraki ware kiln. He works on traditional techniques while producing pieces adapted to the present era.
