Austrian States / County of Tyrol Leopold I 1 Thaler, 1668, Hall Mint This is a 1668 Leopold I 1 Thaler, struck at the historic Hall mint in Tyrol, one of the most important mints in the Austrian lands and well known for its high-quality large silver coinage. The obverse features the right-facing portrait of Emperor Leopold I, wearing a laurel wreath, with a lion head on the shoulder. The hair, armour and drapery show the strong Baroque style typical of 17th-century Habsburg coinage. The reverse displays the composite coat of arms, with the small Tyrolean eagle shield at the centre, and the date 16–68 divided by the crown above. According to Numista, this type is struck in .875 silver, with a standard weight of 28.8 g, diameter of 41.7 mm, and thickness of 2.2 mm. The present coin weighs approximately 28.78 g, very close to the official standard. It shows an attractive natural old silver patina with soft grey-brown and light golden tones. The portrait, legends and coat of arms remain clearly visible, giving the coin strong historical appeal and excellent display value.
