Designed in an elegant square format reminiscent of a traditional poetry card, it features vibrant overglaze decoration enriched with gilt detailing, creating a luxurious and visually balanced composition. The elegant square form is inspired by a Shikishi (traditional Japanese poetry card). The interior is finished in a soft textured white glaze, contrasted by a richly decorated corner panel depicting stylised waves, foliage, and floral elements. Such motifs often symbolise the flow of nature and seasonal vitality, while the use of gold conveys prosperity and refinement. The exterior is adorned with geometric patterns and gold accents, enhancing its decorative appeal. Kawajiri Ikkan (1930–2008), third-generation head of Teizan Kiln, was a highly regarded Kyoto ceramic artist who pursued bold forms while preserving traditional techniques. He received the prestigious Japan Art Academy Prize and held senior positions within the Nitten exhibition. The piece bears the artist’s mark on the base. The original wooden box includes a handwritten title, signature, and seal. Overall in good vintage condition with no chips or cracks. However, the plate shows age-related wear with minor blemishes on the front, and noticeable stains/discolouration on the reverse. The original wooden box has light stains, tape marks, and a slight gap at one corner. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions: approx.
