A very rare original Judaica enamel and steel plaque bearing the Hebrew inscription "בית כנסת" (Beit Knesset), meaning "Synagogue," accompanied by an elegant pointing hand indicating direction.
Historical Background:

During the Second Republic period (1921–1939), approximately 3.5 million Jews lived in Poland. After the German invasion in 1939, synagogues across the country were forcibly closed. It is estimated that about 130,000 synagogues were destroyed or burned. Any surviving items, especially signage related to Jewish heritage, are extremely rare. Most plaques and symbols of Jewish culture were deliberately destroyed. The fact that this enamel plaque has survived until today makes it an extraordinary find.
Provenance:

This enamel sign was from a scrap yard in Warsaw, Poland, in the 1990s. The specific street or synagogue on which this plaque hung is unfortunately unknown today, adding to its historical mystique.
