A sake cup made with the exquisite Japanese "wabi-sabi" aesthetic by a renowned Hagi ware master - Yamane Seigan.
This sake cup was made by Japanese Hagi ware ceramic artist Yamane Seigan. It comes with its original box and kiln description, ensuring clear provenance and making it an exceptionally valuable collector's item.
The cup possesses a stable yet dynamic form, fired using the classic Hagi ware technique. The glaze exhibits a soft white Hagi tone, naturally revealing subtle variations in pale purple, bluish-green, and grayish-white. The glaze flows gently like mountain mist, creating a unique and visually stunning effect through the interplay of fire and clay.
The cup's body tapers slightly at the waist, its lines both soft and strong. The unusual four-legged platform design, with its deep brown-to-black glaze on the feet, contrasts sharply with the elegant Hagi glaze above, showcasing a sculptural and powerful quality reminiscent of modern ceramics. The piece displays distinct expressions from different angles.
The naturally formed bluish-green glaze patterns on the front resemble the misty landscape or the patina of ancient jade, exuding a rich sense of Eastern aesthetics.
Hagi ware has long been renowned as "breathing pottery." Due to the absorbent nature of the clay, with prolonged use, wine and tea stains gradually seep into the vessel, creating a unique color variation characteristic of the user—the famous "Seven Transformations of Hagi." Therefore, each Hagi ware piece becomes increasingly warm and captivating with age.
