The view depicts a romantic view of Daphne, a famous ancient suburb of the ancient city of Antioch on the Orontes (now Antakya in Turkey). It is an original copperplate engraving by the renowned cartographer Abraham Ortelius, published around 1595 in his historical atlas *Parergon* (a supplement to his magnum opus *Theatrum Orbis Terrarum*). With an ornamental title cartouche and a cartouche bearing Ortelius’s address in the bottom left-hand corner. Sheet size 47 x 56 cm Condition Somewhat age-toned; a stain on the left and right of the white margin; otherwise in very good condition.
