A characterful antique French wooden cross mounted on a shaped base, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The cross features a Gothic-inspired design with elegant trefoil-style ends, typical of ecclesiastical craftsmanship. It stands on a substantial carved base, giving it a strong presence as a devotional or decorative piece. The wood has developed a warm, aged patina, with visible grain and natural wear consistent with age. The piece has been lightly cleaned, which enhances its colour while preserving its authentic character. On the reverse, there are visible varnish runs/drips from a previous finish, along with signs of age such as surface wear, small marks and construction joins. The base shows areas of wear, staining and age-related cracking, and there are small old woodworm holes (inactive), which are typical for pieces of this period.
