Iittala - Timo Sarpaneva - 烛台 (3) - 玻璃 - ‘ARKIPELAGO’

On offer are three Scandinavian mid-century modern candleholders designed by the illustrious artist Timo Sarpaneva for the Finnish glass company IITTALA from the 1970s. The triangular shaped pieces are from the iconic ‘Arkipelago’ collection and are made of clear, heavy glass with controlled internal bubbles designed to resemble ice formations. DIMENSIONS: The set includes pieces in different heights: 9 cm, 13 cm, and 23 cm and all three measure 6.5 cm deep. They have a combined weight of approximately 3 kg. CONDITION: The candleholders are in excellent vintage condition, showing very few minor signs of usage. The Iittala sticker is present on the large candlestick. SHIPPING: The pieces will be carefully wrapped, packaged, and boxed, and shipped with a tracking code. Timo SARPANEVA (1926-2006) was one of Finland’s leading sculptors and glass artists in the 20th century. He was part of the Nordic MCM design tradition aiming for clarity in shape that was as timeless, organic and as ‘cool’ as Scandinavia. Sarpaneva is best known for his creative glass works, which blurred the boundaries between utilitarian design and art. “Glass is very mysterious. It's changing all the time. That's what makes it magical,” Sarpaneva said. “It released me from the conventional and the three-dimensional… and took me on a journey to a fourth dimension. I understood the opportunities that clear, transparent glass gives to an artist and designer.” Born into a family of craftsmen, Sarpaneva received his formal training at the Institute for Industrial Arts in Helsinki. Later, he won a competition held by the Italla glassworks and was immediately hired as a designer. Today, his works are in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York and in galleries and museums across Northern Europe. IITTALA is a Finnish design brand renowned for its exceptional glassware and dinnerware collections that embody the essence of Finnish design. Established in 1881, Iittala has a rich history of producing beautifully crafted products that seamlessly blend form and function. From its focus on clean lines and minimalist designs, Iittala's collections are a true representation of the excellent craftsmanship and timeless appeal of Finnish/Scandinavian/Nordic design.
