People who ink traditional Japanese tattoos are called "Horishi." This technique is said to have derived from "Hangi-horishi," who carved woodblocks for Ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
In the Edo period, Hangi-horishi, who possessed advanced techniques for carving precise lines on woodblocks, applied that skill to human skin and began inking tattoos. The handling of "chisels" and "carving knives" used to carve woodblocks led directly to the craftsmanship of inserting needles into the skin to fix the ink.
The artist was also fascinated by the art of tattooing and expresses its artistic quality in this work as a woodblock print.

He has studied multi-color woodblock printing for many years. Because the expression changes depending on the order of printing the woodblocks, he refines his skills until he reaches the envisioned final form to create his works.
