Late 19th century Russian Orthodox icon depicting the “Vision of the Prophet Elijah,” finely painted in tempera and gilt on a traditional wood panel with recessed kovcheg. The richly detailed composition illustrates scenes from the life of the prophet Elijah, including his ascent in the fiery chariot and moments of divine revelation rendered in vivid red, gold, and earth tones. Executed in the traditional iconographic manner with elongated figures, stylized rocky landscapes, and Cyrillic inscriptions throughout. Retains its original double-spline back construction, indicative of traditional Russian craftsmanship. Measures 20 cm high by 17 cm wide.
