Item Description This is a handcrafted Japanese appliqué wall hanging created using furui (antique fabric) and kusaki-zome (plant/botanical-dyed) cloth. The work depicts five stylized bamboo shoots (takenoko) of varying sizes arranged in a row against a warm terracotta-pink ground dyed with botanical pigments, with two sprigs of bamboo rendered in muted sage green applied fabric rising between them. Each bamboo shoot is constructed from multiple pieces of carefully selected antique Japanese fabric — including deep indigo-dyed striped cotton (shima), earthy brown plaid (kasuri-style), and multi-stripe weaves featuring rust, navy, and cream — all hand-stitched onto the ground cloth with a deliberately raw, frayed-edge aesthetic that celebrates the Japanese wabi-sabi spirit of finding beauty in imperfection. The top and bottom edges are finished with natural undyed linen/hemp fringe borders, and the reverse side features a backing of deep indigo-dyed cotton with four hand-twisted cotton loop ties at the top for easy wall display.
