The Muonionalusta meteorite crashed into northern Scandinavia roughly one million years ago, landing west of the modern border between Sweden and Finland, well north of the Arctic Circle.
In 1906, the first piece of Muonionalusta was found near Kitkiöjärvi when a child, playing among the rocks, kicked something unusually heavy and rusty. What seemed like an ordinary stone turned out to be an iron meteorite.
