卖家的描述
A Jama-Coaque Terracotta Head, Jama-Coaque Culture, 3rd BC to 2nd Century AD
Finely modeled terracotta head depicting a high-status individual adorned with an elaborate ceremonial headdress composed of concentric bands and decorative elements framing the face. The figure displays characteristic Jama-Coaque features, including prominent almond-shaped eyes, carefully modeled facial features, large ear ornaments, and a dignified expression. The surface exhibits an attractive light earthen patina with traces of burial deposits and age-related wear, emphasizing the authenticity and antiquity of the piece. Heads of this type formed part of larger figurative sculptures and ceremonial effigies produced by the Jama-Coaque culture of coastal Ecuador, one of the most artistically accomplished societies of pre-Columbian South America. The refined workmanship, expressive facial modeling, and impressive headdress make this an excellent example of Jama-Coaque ceramic art and a highly desirable representation of Ecuador’s ancient cultural heritage.
Material: Terracotta
Height: 8.5 cm
Provenance:
Acquired in the Netherlands from a Dutch private collection formed during the 1990s.
