卖家的描述
A Jama-Coaque Terracotta Head, Jama-Coaque Culture, 3rd BC to 2nd Century AD
Expressive terracotta figure depicting a compact standing anthropomorphic character with both arms raised toward the face, a rounded head, simplified facial features, and a strongly stylized body. The figure displays the distinctive sculptural language of the Jama-Coaque culture of coastal Ecuador, with a powerful frontal presence, rounded volumes, and an intimate gesture that may have carried ceremonial or symbolic meaning. The surface shows an attractive greyish earthen patina with age-related wear, mineral deposits, and burial encrustations throughout. Small figural works of this type formed part of the rich ceramic tradition of ancient Ecuador, reflecting ritual, social, and spiritual aspects of Jama-Coaque society. Its compact size, expressive posture, and strong archaeological character make it a charming and desirable example of pre-Columbian Ecuadorian terracotta art.
Material: Terracotta
Height: 7.3 cm
Provenance:
Acquired in the Netherlands from a Dutch private collection formed during the 1990s.
