Title: Hagi Kohiki Hexagonal Faceted Hanaire(花入) | Original Tomobako by Ukawa Seikoku Artist: Ukawa Seikoku(宇川聖谷), Founder of Tanmyozan Kiln(丹妙山窯), Disciple of Living National Treasure Miwa Kyusetsu Kiln: Hagi-yaki(萩焼), Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan | Tanmyozan Kiln(丹妙山窯) Dimensions: H 23.6 cm (9.29 in) × Max Dia. 7.2 cm (2.83 in) Weight: 803 g Box Dimensions: H 26.3 cm (10.35 in) × W 9.2 cm (3.62 in) × D 9.2 cm (3.62 in) Material: Natural coarse Hagi clay body, Kohiki feldspar white slip glaze Period: Early Heisei, circa 1975–1995 Accessories: Original wooden tomobako, handwritten pottery pamphlet, matching yellow storage cloth, complete set Remark: Handcrafted masterwork from Miwa Kyusetsu lineage, iconic white Hagi Kohiki ware This hand-thrown Kohiki hanaire is an Ikebana-specific vessel made by master potter Ukawa Seikoku(宇川聖谷) at Tanmyozan Kiln, inheriting authentic traditional white Hagi techniques from Living National Treasure Miwa Kyusetsu. Crafted from exclusive local Ishima coarse Hagi clay and coated with classic Kohiki white slip before high-temperature firing. The body is hand-chiselled into vertical hexagonal facets; milky white glaze flows irregularly downwards during firing, revealing raw reddish-brown earthen body on the lower part. Tiny scattered speckles across the glaze create distinctive Wabi-sabi texture, every piece is entirely one-of-a-kind. In Japanese tradition, Hagi ware symbolises peace and good fortune, ideal for floral display and art collection. The base retains clear woven linen marks from traditional cloth-padding firing plus the maker’s mark, perfectly matching the handwritten inscription and artist’s seal on the original tomobako. Complete with the potter’s ceramic history record and matching yellow storage cloth, the full set remains well preserved.
