This affects only the brightness of the viewfinder image and does not appear on the film, because the mirror swings up out of the way during exposure. - The viewfinder shows haze. - The taking lens shows light haze. Introduced in April 1964, the Canon FX was the first Canon SLR to adopt the new Canon FL lens mount, which replaced the earlier Canonflex R mount and later evolved into the well-known FD system. It is built around a horizontal-travel cloth focal-plane shutter (1 sec to 1/1000 sec, plus B) and a body-mounted CdS exposure meter that is coupled to the shutter-speed dial and indicates the recommended aperture, with a mirror lock-up provided. The lens supplied with this body is the Canon FL 50mm f/1.8, the standard fast fifty for the FL system, with its barrel engraved "Canon Camera Co., Inc. Lens - Made in Japan." Lens Mount and Compatibility Canon FL mount, manual focus. The FL mount is the predecessor of the Canon FD mount and uses the same breech-lock bayonet, so it physically mounts on Canon FL and FD-series SLR bodies; however, on FD bodies it works in stop-down (manual) metering only and does not support the open-aperture metering of native FD lenses. On modern mirrorless cameras (Sony E, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, Canon RF/EF-M, and others) it can be used with an FD/FL adapter while retaining infinity focus. Please note: FL is NOT the autofocus Canon EF mount and will not fit Canon EOS cameras. No fungus and no balsam separation reported; the elements are otherwise clear. Viewfinder: haze is present. Mirror: the reflex mirror shows corrosion (spotting of the silvering). Functional Shutter: the slow speeds (1/4 sec and slower) are sticky and inaccurate; the faster speeds work normally. Meter and power: the camera powers on and the built-in CdS meter responds. The FX was designed for a 1.3V mercury cell, which is no longer manufactured, so a suitable modern replacement or adapter is required for metering. Lens: the focusing helicoid is smooth and the aperture operates without any problem. Known Issues - The slow shutter speeds (1/4 sec and slower) are sticky and do not fire at accurate speeds. The faster speeds operate normally. - The reflex mirror shows corrosion (spotting of the silvering). This reduces viewfinder brightness only and does not affect the recorded image. - The viewfinder shows haze. - The Canon FL 50mm f/1.8 shows light internal haze. Light haze can lower contrast and may produce some veiling flare against strong light sources.
