The vase features a fine crackled Ge-type glaze covering its body, accented by textured iron-brown slip (tie gu ni) borders at the rim, neck, and foot—evoking the aesthetic of archaic bronze. The crackled white surface provides a striking contrast to vivid underglaze blue paintings of scholarly “gaoshi” figures in a traditional scene, rendered with lively, expressive brushwork. Two moulded lion-head handles adorn the neck, adding decorative charm and auspicious symbolism.
