晚期明治 秋田枕箪笥 — 原木材质与黑漆表面,配圆形铁制五金件 - 木 - 日本 - Meiji period (1868-1912)

Item Description: Late Meiji Period Japanese Makura Tansu (Pillow Chest) — Paulownia and Cedar with Round Iron Hardware, Akita Region This charming small tansu is a fine example of a makura tansu (枕箪笥, literally "pillow chest") originating from the Akita region of northern Japan, dating to the late Meiji period (c. late 19th – early 20th century). Crafted from a combination of paulownia (kiri) for the front panels and cedar (sugi) for the frame and interior drawers, the piece exemplifies the regional woodworking tradition of Tohoku. The hardware features elegant round iron fittings (maru kanagu) with warabi-te (fern-shaped) drawer pulls — a refined decorative detail typical of high-quality Japanese cabinetry of the era. The front panels are left in their natural wood finish and treated with antique wax, while the frame is finished in black lacquer, creating a beautifully restrained wabi aesthetic. All drawers have been professionally cleaned and wax-finished, and the chest is in immediately usable condition. Versatile in function, this piece works equally well as a small chest of drawers, a desk surface, or even a display pedestal — making it an exceptionally adaptable antique for modern interiors with a Japanese or Scandinavian sensibility. Size Height: 38 cm Width: 57.5 cm Depth: 27.5 cm Weight: 5,650 g / 5.65 kg Condition Professionally cleaned and wax-finished; shows age-appropriate minor scratches, surface wear, and patina consistent with its late Meiji-period origin, as visible in the photographs. Note: the lock mechanism has been intentionally disabled (no key included). NOITICE: This item is large and will be shipped via Japan Post surface (sea) mail. Delivery takes at least 3 months, so please be patient and do not open a claim during this period.
