This stunning icon is a reproduction (print) of the Madonna and Child, originally created by Sandro Botticelli in the 15th century. It is printed on wood and was produced in the Pineider Workshop in Florence, Italy, in the mid-20th century. The Icon measures 44 x 29 cm. This icon features a beautifully engraved and gilded wooden frame crafted using ancient "gouache" techniques by Florentine gilding masters. The gold leaf is applied with a warm tempera, and the surface is meticulously burnished and glazed. The artifact is particularly interesting as an example of typical Florentine craftsmanship for cultural tourism: above all, the frame, rich in punched decorations, scrolls, and floral motifs, is part of the production that was widespread in Florence in the mid-twentieth century (approximately 1930–1940), created by local workshops and studios for the market of visitors and collectors of Italian "art souvenirs."
