An exceptional and highly sought-after silver Halbtaler struck in 1835 for the Canton of Bern (catalogued as HMZ 2-232a). This magnificent specimen represents the pinnacle of late-classical Swiss cantonal coinage, minted shortly before the unification of the Swiss monetary system.
Obverse: Features the iconic crowned coat of arms of Bern, depicting a sharply defined, walking bear facing left within a heater shield. Encircled by the crisp legend: RESPUBLICA BERNENSIS.
Reverse: Depicts a beautifully detailed standing Swiss soldier in period military uniform, holding a broadsword. Encircled by the Latin motto: DOMINUS PROVIDEBIT (The Lord Will Provide), with the date 1835 positioned cleanly in the exergue.
