If you require faster delivery, airmail shipping can also be arranged upon request. In this case, please pay the additional shipping cost separately after the auction.

Surface mail from Japan may take approximately 3 months depending on the destination country. If you are in a hurry, please consider choosing airmail.

This impressive Japanese tea ceremony set consists of a Shinnari iron kettle (Kama) by the renowned kettle master Hata Shunsai and a Karakane Chousen Furo by the celebrated bronze artisan Fujii Soki, both distinguished craftsmen from Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture – one of Japan’s foremost centers of metal artistry.

The set is a traditional combination known as "Kiriawase Chousen Furo with Shinnari Kama", representing an ideal harmony between a kettle maker and a brazier maker, each specializing in their own craft.

The upper iron kettle is made in the classic Shinnari form, one of the most prestigious and timeless styles used in the Japanese tea ceremony. Its dignified silhouette, gently sloping shoulders, and robust iron texture create a quiet yet powerful presence.

The bronze brazier beneath is a Chousen Furo, crafted in traditional karakane bronze. The elegant curves of its body, the graceful three-legged form, and the beautiful bronze patina perfectly complement the iron kettle above.

In the tea ceremony tradition, kettle makers and brazier makers are separate specialists. A pairing of works by Hata Shunsai and Fujii Soki represents an ideal combination of two masters from the Takaoka metalworking tradition.

The interior of the kettle shows traces of previous charcoal use and age-related patina, which are natural signs of authentic tea ceremony use. The kettle has no holes and no water leakage, and the set remains in working order.

This set is not only a functional tea utensil but also an outstanding example of Japanese metal art, embodying centuries of craftsmanship and the refined aesthetics of chanoyu.
