信楽石器碗,天然灰釉,由在世大师 Takahashi Rakusai - 石器 - 高橋楽斎 Takahashi Rakusai (4th generation, 1925–) - 日本 - 1900–2000

Item Description 高橋楽斎 Takahashi Rakusai (4th generation, 1925–) This impressive Shigaraki-ware large bowl (hachi), also suited for use as a wine cooler, is a fine example of the bold and expressive stoneware tradition carried on by the renowned Rakusai kiln in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. The piece showcases the distinctive characteristics of authentic Shigaraki ware: a deep, wide form with subtly undulating rim, rich warm tones ranging from amber and reddish-brown to dark mahogany, and a surface generously scattered with natural ash glaze deposits (shizen yu) that formed organically during kiln firing. The exterior bears visible throwing lines and dynamic kiln markings — scorch marks, drips, and kiln ash crystals — that speak to the powerful anagama-style wood-firing technique long associated with the Rakusai tradition. The interior reveals a swirling pattern of warm amber and gray-brown hues, with ash pooling beautifully at the base. The unglazed foot ring displays the raw, textured clay body characteristic of Shigaraki stoneware. The potter's mark — the "ra" (楽) seal — is impressed on the base, confirming authorship. Its generous size and striking presence make it ideal not only as a large serving bowl or floral vessel, but also as a wine cooler — a contemporary use that perfectly complements its rustic, wabi aesthetic. This piece embodies the timeless beauty so prized in Japanese ceramic arts. Size Height: 13 cm Width: 26 cm Depth: 25.5 cm Weight 1,787 g Condition The piece is in good condition with no major chips or cracks; natural kiln marks, firing variations, and minor surface roughness are inherent characteristics of the Shigaraki wood-firing technique and are not considered damage. Artist Profile 高橋楽斎 Takahashi Rakusai (4th generation, 1925–) The Rakusai kiln (Rakusai-gama) is one of the most celebrated lineages in Shigaraki-ware ceramics, with a history tracing back to the early 19th century. The 3rd generation Takahashi Rakusai (1898–1975) was designated a Shiga Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property and won the Grand Prix at the 1960 Brussels World Exposition, establishing the Rakusai name internationally. The 4th generation Takahashi Rakusai (born 1925 in Shiga Prefecture) succeeded the name in 1976 upon his father's passing. Trained under the 3rd generation, he was awarded the title of Traditional Craftsman (Dentō Kōgeishi) by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and held a solo exhibition in Los Angeles, receiving a letter of commendation from the city's mayor. Alongside the Naomata kiln, the Rakusai kiln is regarded as one of the two great pillars of modern Shigaraki ceramics.
