卖家的描述
A Roman Terracotta Oil Lamp (Lucerna), 1st to 3rd Century A.D.
Fine Roman terracotta oil lamp featuring a circular discus decorated with a relief representation of an eagle, a powerful symbol closely associated with Roman military authority, Jupiter, and imperial power. The lamp displays the classic rounded body and integrated nozzle characteristic of Roman lighting devices produced throughout the Imperial period. The warm orange ceramic fabric, together with the well-preserved decorative details, makes this an attractive and highly collectible example of everyday Roman material culture.
Oil lamps were among the most essential objects in Roman domestic life, illuminating homes, workshops, temples, and military installations across the Empire. Decorative motifs such as eagles elevated these functional objects beyond their practical purpose, reflecting the symbolism and artistic traditions of the Roman world. Pieces featuring clearly visible figural decoration remain especially desirable among collectors of Roman antiquities.
Material: Terracotta
Dimensions: 90 × 70 × 40 mm
Weight: 57.82 g
Provenance:
Acquired in Germany, from an old private German collection acquired in the 1980s.
