A charming lacquered sake set decorated with Japanese dwarf bamboo 笹 (sasa) and heavenly bamboo 南天 (nanten) laden with berries. The set comprises a melon-shaped chôshi 銚子 (sake ewer), a graduated set of three nesting sakazuki 盃 (sake cups), and a matching sakazukidai 杯台 (cup stand). The decoration is executed in silver and gold hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) against contrasting black and red lacquered ground. Complete with its original wooden tomobako 共箱 (storage box) bearing an inscription in ink. Period: Japan – Shôwa period (1926–1989) Dimensions: Cup stand: Height 7.5 cm, Width 11 cm, Depth 10.8 cm.
