Sheets of gold leaf of differing thickness are cut into the camellia design, fired onto the body, and sealed beneath a clear glaze, giving the gold a luminous depth that never tarnishes. The piece comes with its original signed wooden box (tomobako) and signed cloth wrapper (tomofu). 【Artist Profile】 Minori Yoshita (b. 1932) is a Japanese ceramic artist from Komatsu, Ishikawa, and the third-generation head of the Kinzangama kiln. In 2001 he was designated a Living National Treasure (Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property) for yuri-kinsai, the underglaze gold leaf technique he perfected. He is recognised as the foremost master of this method, in which fired gold leaf is preserved under a transparent glaze so that the natural colour of the gold endures.
