卖家的描述

Item Description:
A captivating Yashichida Oribe (弥七田织部) style tea bowl in the "Bajōhai" (stirrup cup) form, dating from the 19th century (Late Edo to Meiji period). This piece beautifully captures the unconventional spirit of Mino ancient ceramics, which were originally produced in the kiln districts of Mino Province (present-day Gifu Prefecture).

The bowl is formed in the distinctive bajōhai (马上杯) style—a tall-footed cup form said to originate in China, traditionally used by mounted warriors. In the world of chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony), this bold and sculptural form adds a dramatic, warrior-like aesthetic to the tea gathering.

Classified as Yashichida Oribe (弥七田织部) style, this piece is characterized by its iron-black glaze (kuro-tetsu-yu) applied over a stoneware body. It features spontaneous, gestural brushwork and the characteristic hand-formed silhouette. The freely-applied glaze with its rich dark tones, the organic irregularity of the rim, and the tall foot ring all contribute to the piece's wabi aesthetic—rough, honest, and deeply meditative.

This bowl is an excellent example of the 19th-century revival of the Oribe tradition, maintaining the high artistic standards of the original Momoyama-era wares. The piece comes with its wooden storage box (hako-tsuki), enhancing its presentation and collectibility. It offers a wonderful opportunity for collectors to appreciate the enduring legacy of Japanese ceramic art.
