This Ulysse Nardin ref. 1420 is a rarely encountered vintage model from the brand’s more design-focused late-1960s to 1970s period. While Ulysse Nardin is historically associated with marine chronometers and precision timekeeping, watches such as this show the brand’s more unconventional side, combining a compact manual-wind movement with a bold cushion-shaped steel case and integrated-style mesh bracelet.

The unusual case architecture, softly squared dial opening and wide brushed bezel give this piece a strong period character that is much less commonly seen than Ulysse Nardin’s traditional round dress watches. Its ETA 2512 hand-wound movement is a reliable Swiss calibre, making the watch both distinctive and practical for regular wear.

Condition:

The watch is in honest vintage condition overall, with a particularly appealing brushed silver dial and original applied baton hour markers. The dial shows visible age-related wear, including small spots, marks and areas of discolouration, especially noticeable under close inspection. These details are consistent with its age and contribute to its vintage character.

The original crystal has been polished and presents clearly overall, although light remaining marks may still be visible depending on the angle. The stainless-steel case shows scratches, scuffs and general wear around the brushed bezel, polished inner frame and case sides. The caseback also shows surface wear and scratches, while both the reference and case serial number remain legible.
