Large oil lamp of the so-called “Red Slip Ware”, which was produced in Roman Northern Africa. These types of vessels were exported throughout the Mediterranean from workshops in Tunisia. The central motif appears to depict a peacock or a similar bird, a recurring design in the iconography of the late Roman and early Christian periods. : It features a single central hole for pouring the oil. The shoulder is decorated with relief motifs of palm branches or ears of corn.
