Kosuke Kimura 木村光佑 Limited Edition Print Portfolio, 1984 - Kosuke Kimura / 木村光佑 - 日本 - Shōwa period (1926-1989)

Good condition, has some creases and dirt. Description: This is a limited-edition print portfolio by Japanese artist Kosuke Kimura / 木村光佑. The set is housed in a black cloth-covered portfolio case, decorated with gold lettering, the artist’s facsimile signature, and publisher marking. Inside are mounted color prints, each presented in a wide white mat, giving the album a formal collector’s presentation. The justification sheet states that the album contains six color prints, published by Asahi Broadcasting Co. in 1984. It also notes that the works are original prints, described as lithographs and serigraphs/silkscreen-type prints, printed at the artist’s atelier. The edition was limited to 200 numbered copies, with an additional 10 H.C. copies reserved for the artist and publisher. This particular album is numbered 14/200, and the sheet states that all individual prints are signed by the artist. The visible print in the front has Kimura’s characteristic collage-like composition: layered images, everyday objects, architectural fragments, strong color contrasts, and a graphic arrangement that feels both playful and modern. The work reflects his interest in combining photographic imagery, printmaking, advertising-like visual language, and contemporary urban culture. Artist introduction: Kosuke Kimura 木村光佑 was born in Osaka in 1936 and became an important Japanese postwar printmaker, sculptor, and visual artist. Museum records identify him as a Japanese artist born in Osaka, and major institutions such as MoMA and the Art Institute of Chicago list works by him in their collections. Kimura studied Japanese-style painting at Kyoto City University of Arts, graduating in 1959. According to the Otani Memorial Art Museum, he began making collage works while recovering from illness in 1963, and this experience led him toward printmaking. His career developed strongly from the late 1960s onward, and in 1971 he received the Grand Prix at the 9th International Biennial of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana. His work is especially associated with the combination of lithography, silkscreen, photography, collage, and layered color fields. The Otani Memorial Art Museum describes his method as using Japanese-painting-style layered pale color and combining lithography with silkscreen to create vivid color gradations. Another gallery source notes that Kimura used silkscreen and photography to build layered images drawn from modern visual experience, mass media, and everyday information. In addition to his work as an artist, Kimura also had an academic career. He became a professor at Kyoto Institute of Technology in 1987 and later served as the university’s president from 1998 to 2004. NOTICE
