This swordfish bill has been hand carved with a traditional Maori pattern.

Hand-carved swordfish tusk with traditional Maori Wheku and Tiki carving. Wheku, meaning 'carved face', depicts the face of an ancestor. The Wheku is generally found at the apex of the gable on a Wharenui, the Maori meeting house, and symbolizes​ an important ancestor after whom the house was named. The eyes of this Maori have been decorated with abalone shells, adding striking detail and giving homage to Maori tradition.
手工雕刻的旗鱼牙，采用传统毛利瓦库与提基雕刻。Wheku，意为“雕刻脸”，描绘祖先的面容。Wheku 通常位于毛利人集会所 Wharenui 山墙檐口的顶端，象征着以此住所命名的那位重要祖先。此处毛利人的眼睛用鲍鱼贝壳装饰，增添醒目细节，致敬毛利传统。
