19th-Century Newar Nepalese Heavy Cast Brass Ewer with Lotus-Petal Decoration and Carved Wooden Stand Description A substantial 19th-century brass ewer, probably from Northern India, distinguished by its elegant baluster-shaped form and richly modelled decorative details. The heavy cast body is decorated with pronounced vertical lotus-petal lobes extending across the rounded body, foot, elongated neck and broad flared rim. The vessel is fitted with a tall, faceted and upward-curving spout, while finely cast beaded borders, floral bands and repeated petal motifs enhance its sculptural appearance. The broad mouth is surrounded by a raised lotus-petal border, echoed throughout the neck, body and foot. The overall composition is well balanced, with strong symmetry and substantial casting characteristic of traditional 19th-century Newari metalwork. The ewer is accompanied by a fitted carved wooden display stand. The surface retains a rich, naturally developed patina, with areas of green oxidation visible within the recessed decoration, consistent with age.
