Hyōkandō (表完堂) - Hyōkan Kawase (川瀬表完) (b. 1964) - 茶碗 - 木、漆、金(蒔絵) - 京都漆器,签名盒

A tactile masterpiece of Kyoto lacquer art — a gourd-shaped tea caddy wrapped in fine spiraling thread-lines, its dark lacquered rim accented with graceful gold maki-e. This small tea caddy (chaki) takes the form of a hyōtan (gourd), its surface built up using the itome-nuri (thread-line) technique — countless fine lacquer threads wound tightly around the wooden core and polished to a deep reddish-brown sheen. The black-lacquered rim is decorated with delicate gold maki-e depicting a trailing ivy vine, creating a refined contrast of texture and colour against the warm red-brown body. Compact and tactile in the hand, the piece embodies the quiet elegance long associated with Kyoto's Hyō-ha lacquer tradition, in which every thread and every line is drawn and wound entirely by hand. 【Artist Profile】 Hyōkan Kawase (b. 1964) is the third-generation head of the Hyōkandō workshop in Kyoto, continuing a lacquer lineage founded by Kawase Shigetarō (Hyōkan I) in the early 20th century, itself rooted in the Hyō-ha school established by Kimura Hyōsai (1817–1885) — one of the principal traditions of Kyoto lacquerware (Kyō-nuri). Hyōkan III trained under his father, the second-generation Hyōkan, and succeeded the name in 2007. The Hyōkandō workshop specialises in tea ceremony utensils, employing traditional techniques such as tamenuri, kiji-tamenuri, ikkan-nuri and nuno-zuri alongside contemporary forms and materials. 【Condition】 Excellent. Minor signs of age commensurate with careful storage. 【Shipping】 Carefully packed and shipped internationally with full tracking for safe delivery. 【※Important Information※】 Customs duties, VAT, and import clearance fees are not included in the shipping cost and are the responsibility of the buyer. These charges vary depending on your country's import regulations and are beyond the seller's control. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. All items are carefully packed and promptly shipped with tracking to ensure safe delivery. Please bid with confidence.
