About the Artist Yu Geun-Hyeong (1900–1993), better known by his artist name Haegang, was one of the most influential Korean ceramic artists of the twentieth century. Inspired by Goryeo celadon during his student years, he dedicated his life to reviving its traditional techniques. At the age of eighteen, he entered the Japanese-operated Hanyang Goryeo Ware workshop, where he studied traditional inlay techniques. He later worked at several Japanese-operated ceramic factories and became acquainted with Korean ceramic scholar Asakawa Noritaka. Through Asakawa's introduction, he continued his study of celadon production in Kyoto, Japan. In 1928, he received the Gold Prize at the Beppu City Chugai Industrial Exposition in Japan.
