花瓶 - 石器 - 日本 - 白裂纹釉 - 小野光龙 (1952年生)

Item Description This is a substantial hand-thrown Hagi ware vase (tsubo) produced at the Hagi Kazan kiln (萩華山窯) in Yamaguchi Prefecture, signed by the potter Ono Kōryū 小野光龍 (b. 1952) on the unglazed foot ring. Hagi ware is one of Japan's most celebrated traditional ceramic styles, historically favoured in the tea ceremony for its soft, absorbent glazes and quiet, understated beauty. The vase has a full, rounded body tapering to a narrow mouth, entirely covered in a thick white crackle glaze (kannyū) that breaks and pools unevenly over incised spiral ridges carved into the clay surface. This carved banding, combined with the crazed glaze texture, creates a strong tactile and visual rhythm across the piece, while the exposed buff-coloured stoneware at the foot reveals the natural clay body beneath the glaze. The interior and rim show a darker, contrasting glaze tone typical of traditional Hagi kilns. The piece is signed with an impressed maker's mark reading Kōryū (光龍) on the base and is accompanied by its original wooden storage box (tomobako), which typically bears the kiln or artist name and helps confirm provenance. This is a striking decorative object well suited as a standalone display piece or flower vase, reflecting the enduring craft traditions of Hagi pottery. Size Height: 26.5 cm Width: 27 cm Depth: 27 cm Weight 2462 g Condition Used, with no notable damage such as chips or cracks observed. The crackled glaze surface and slight glaze pooling are inherent characteristics of the firing and glazing technique rather than damage. Sold as-is, in the condition shown in the photographs. Artist Profile Ono Kōryū (小野光龍, b. 1952) is a Japanese potter specialising in Hagi ware. Born in Hagi, he began working in ceramics in 1967 and has continued to produce work within the Hagi ware tradition ever since. He has received numerous selections and awards at ceramic and art exhibitions over the course of his career, and his work is recognised for its refined technique, warm and natural glaze tones, and faithful expression of Hagi ware's traditional character.
