海泡石 - 黄铜, 海泡石, 琥珀
handsome and well-used antique meerschaum tobacco pipe, circa 1870–1900, presented in its original form-fitted leather case.
The rounded bowl is hand-carved throughout in a dense lattice and circle pattern, a decorative style characteristic of Central European pipe-making during the Victorian era. The meerschaum has developed a rich warm honey-to-amber patina through years of use — the natural colour change that collectors regard as proof of genuine block meerschaum quality.
The bowl is enclosed by a fitted gilt brass hinged cap with a sprung latch, a practical feature of better-quality pipes of the period that protected the tobacco during outdoor use. The interior shows honest carbon cake build-up from regular smoking.
The shank is decorated with fine chased scrollwork and connects via a polished gilt brass collar to the genuine natural amber stem — identifiable by its characteristic translucent warm honey colour, subtle internal clarity, and the way light passes through it. Natural amber stems are significantly rarer and more desirable than the vulcanite or pressed amber substitutes common on lesser pipes, and substantially add to the collectible value of this piece.
The pipe sits in its original suede-lined leather case, shaped precisely to the pipe, with brass hinge and clasp intact.
