-> Coins, symbols of power - struck in metal. From Emperors to Kings, rulers struck their image and ideals into coins, turning currency into one of history’s most enduring propaganda tools. These small objects passed daily through the hands of ordinary people, spreading messages of authority with every exchange.
-> Deiotaros, King of Galatia in the 1st century BC, was a Celtic tetrarch and ally of Rome during the late Republic. A shrewd and ambitious ruler, he supported Pompey against Julius Caesar, but later secured a pardon from Caesar himself.
Renowned for his loyalty to Rome and political survival, Deiotaros transformed Galatia from a tribal confederation into a Hellenised client Kingdom. His story was famously recounted by Cicero in the Pro Rege Deiotaro, offering a vivid glimpse of diplomacy, shifting alliances, and Roman influence on the Celtic East.
-> The Kingdom of Galatia was established in central Anatolia (modern Turkey) around the 3rd century BC by Celtic tribes who had migrated from Europe. It became a Hellenistic client Kingdom, interacting with neighbouring powers like Pergamon, Cappadocia, and Rome.
Galatia maintained a Celtic cultural identity while adopting Hellenistic customs. By the 1st century BC, under kings such as Amyntas, it expanded its territory, but after his death in 25 BC, Galatia was incorporated into the Roman Empire as a province.
