AUGUSTE RODIN after - 雕塑, 《La Danaïde》 - 16.5 cm - 石膏
Sculpture: *Danaides*
Artist: Auguste Rodin (Father of Modern Sculpture)
Creation Time: circa 1883-1885
The sculpture depicts the fifty Danaides from Greek mythology. Fifty princesses who killed their husbands after marriage were punished by the gods, condemned to endlessly pouring water into a bottomless jar in the underworld, enduring eternal despair and exhaustion.
The statue depicts a naked figure, leaning forward, prone on a rough rock base. The back muscles are smoothly and powerfully defined. Long hair cascades down like a waterfall, the head is deeply buried in the rock, and the arms are folded tightly against the body, conveying extreme exhaustion, despair, and helplessness. The deliberately rough, sculpted texture of the base contrasts sharply with the smooth, delicate human skin—a signature technique of Rodin.
