An original "Groeten uit Holland" chair designed by Rob Eckhardt, one of the iconic examples of Dutch postmodern furniture design. I purchased this chair new around 1990 from Eigen Stijl in The Hague, a specialist retailer of contemporary designer furniture. It has remained in my ownership ever since and has been carefully looked after. During that time it even accompanied me to New Zealand before returning with me to the Netherlands, giving it a rather unique history. The chair retains its distinctive original character: Original tulip-pattern upholstered backrest. Original seat upholstery. Armrests professionally reupholstered after years of normal use. Original upholstery has naturally faded with age, consistent with a chair of this period. Original manufacturer's label is no longer present, although the outline where it was attached can still be seen underneath. The "Groeten uit Holland" chair is regarded as one of the classic pieces of Dutch postmodern design from the 1980s. Its asymmetrical form and stylised tulip backrest make it both a functional chair and a sculptural statement piece. The chair is being sold only because I am returning permanently to New Zealand and this time I'd rather not take it with me. I would much rather see it appreciated by someone who values Dutch design than have it shipped again. Serious enquiries are welcome.
