Finely hand-carved and hand-painted wooden figure of Saint Nicholas of Myra, depicted as a bishop in full vestments: a golden mitre, a richly draped red-and-gold cope over a white alb, raising an ornate gilt crozier in his right hand. In his left arm he holds the closed Gospel book bearing three golden balls (apples) — the traditional attribute of Saint Nicholas, recalling the dowry he secretly gave to three impoverished sisters. Carved from solid wood and hand-painted in warm polychrome, with gold-leaf detailing on the mitre, crozier and robe borders. The figure retains the original gold label of Kopfberger Holzschnitzerei, Salzburg, a long-established Salzburg woodcarving house, together with the "Woodcarving" hand-carved origin mark of the Alpine / South Tyrolean carving tradition renowned worldwide for its sacred figures. A characterful devotional carving in the classic Tyrolean style — well suited to a collector of religious folk art, a home altar, or as a St. Nicholas / Advent seasonal piece. Height: 24 cm.
