Samuel Alcock & Co., Staffordshire - 茶壶 - 瓷

A fine example of an English Rococo Revival porcelain teapot, strongly attributable to Samuel Alcock & Co., Staffordshire, and dating from around 1826–1840. The distinctive moulded foot, stylish dragon spout, and the green ground with gilt and white vine decoration are hallmark Alcock features of that era, and similar examples are both in the Murray Pollinger Collection and documented in specialist Samuel Alcock catalogues. This item was acquired with a number of others labelled as being from the Murray Pollinger collection and so it is reasonable to assume the same source, details of this collection can be seen below. The teapot is in good condition without cracks but with two small repaired rim chips. The Murray Pollinger Collection was one of the most significant private collections of Samuel Alcock porcelain, meticulously documented and catalogued by Pollinger over several decades until it was partially dispersed after his passing in 2022. Murray Pollinger (1932–2022) was a renowned literary agent and a passionate, meticulous collector—and pioneering researcher—of Samuel Alcock porcelain. His collection has been recognised as one of the largest and best-documented holdings of Samuel Alcock wares ever assembled, and his efforts have significantly deepened scholarly understanding of this crucial English porcelain manufacturer. Pollinger enjoyed a successful career as a literary agent, representing major authors such as Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake. His work clarified Alcock’s broad and eclectic output, providing keys to distinguishing genuine Alcock from similar period wares and offering the first systematic cataloguing of patterns and forms. A portion of the collection was sold in 2016 and more recently after his passing. Most pieces from the collection bear a small round label marked “Murray Pollinger Collection” with an inventory number, a mark of its trusted provenance for collectors and dealers. The teapot stands 20cm (7.87") high and 27cm (10.63") from the tip of the spout to the back of the handle. A truly rare and important piece.
