Produced in January 1966, this serviced Seikomatic Weekdater is fitted with a new crystal and a new black leather strap. The Seikomatic line represented an important stage in Seiko’s development of increasingly sophisticated automatic watches during the 1960s. Positioned above the company’s more conventional everyday models, Seikomatic watches combined restrained formal styling with higher jewel-count movements and practical calendar complications. The Weekdater was distinguished by its unusual calendar layout: the date is displayed at 3 o’clock, while the fully written day appears through a separate aperture above 6 o’clock. The calibre 6206 was introduced during the mid-1960s as a 26-jewel automatic movement operating at 18,000 vibrations per hour. Reference 6206-8990 is particularly recognisable for its generously proportioned case, dauphine-style hands and highly symmetrical dial arrangement. The stainless-steel case retains its elegant shape and long, distinctive lugs, with light scratches, small marks and surface wear consistent with age and regular use. The caseback is visibly worn, although the engravings and dolphin medallion remain discernible. The silver-white dial is well preserved for its age. The applied hour markers, printed inscriptions and unusual calendar apertures remain clear and legible. Minor age-related marks and light discolouration are visible. The hands and applied markers show light signs of ageing. The new crystal is clean and scratch-free, providing a clear view of the dial, and the watch is fitted with a new black leather strap. The movement has been serviced, and all functions operate correctly. The water resistance of this vintage watch cannot be guaranteed.
