木质家用佛龛(坐菩萨像)— 铭文“普贤菩萨” - 木 - 1920-1930

Material: Carved wood Origin: Japan Period: 1920-1930 Condition: Excellent vintage condition with minor signs of age and devotional use. The shrine and carved figure remain in good structural condition. Please examine the photographs carefully for details. ──────── A compact Japanese wooden household Buddhist shrine (zushi) housing a finely carved seated Bodhisattva on a double lotus pedestal. The inside of the shrine doors bears the handwritten inscriptions 「普賢菩薩守護」 (“Fugen Bosatsu Protection”) and 「岩井家々運吉祥」, indicating that this shrine was dedicated to the protection, prosperity, and good fortune of the Iwai family. These inscriptions strongly suggest that the shrine served as a genuine object of daily household devotion rather than being created solely as a decorative work. In Japanese Buddhism, Fugen Bosatsu (Samantabhadra) is revered as the Bodhisattva of virtuous practice, compassionate vows, and the protection of those who follow the Buddhist path. Household shrines dedicated to Fugen Bosatsu were traditionally believed to bring blessings, family prosperity, harmony, and protection from misfortune. The Bodhisattva is depicted with a serene expression, wearing an elegant crown and seated upon a finely carved double lotus throne beneath a circular halo. Despite its compact size, the shrine conveys a quiet spiritual presence and reflects the craftsmanship characteristic of traditional Japanese devotional sculpture. As an authentic household Buddhist shrine with preserved devotional inscriptions, this piece possesses not only artistic appeal but also cultural and historical significance, offering a glimpse into everyday religious life in Japan during the Shōwa period. An excellent addition to a collection of Japanese Buddhist art, religious antiques, folk religion, or devotional objects. ─────── Included ・ Wooden household Buddhist shrine (zushi) ・ Carved wooden seated Bodhisattva figure ─────── Dimensions (approx.) ・ Height: 10 cm ・ Width: 9.5 cm ・ Depth: 7.5 cm ・ Weight: 500 g ━━━━━━━━ Shipping • Carefully packed and shipped with tracking. • International shipping via Yamato Transport or Japan Post. • Import duties, taxes, VAT and any other charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost.
