A nice hand-embroidered silk panel depicting a pair of cockerels beneath a flowering branch. Executed in coloured silk threads on a cream silk ground, the composition centres on two richly feathered roosters standing amongst blossoming branches and grasses. Above them, a flowering branch laden with pale pink blossoms extends across the upper right of the panel. An inscription and red seal appear in the upper left corner. The silk panel is mounted on a cotton backing set within a simple hardwood frame. Period: China - around 1900 Dimensions: Frame: Width 149.3 cm; Height 57.8 cm. Silk panel: Width 103.1 cm; Height 48.7 cm. The piece is in fair condition, with age-related discolouration, scattered staining, scratches and some wear to the silk. The reverse backing is missing.
