The damage must be reported to your local post office within 7 days of delivery, and promptly to us and Catawiki support. 【Product details】 A refined black lacquer tea caddy titled “Warabi,” created during the late Showa period by Kaga maki-e artist Souin Nakamura (中村宗尹). The deep, lustrous black lacquer is decorated with young bracken fern shoots and dandelion leaves in restrained bronze-toned gold maki-e. The softly curled bracken shoots rise across the lid and body, while the jagged dandelion leaves spread around the lower section and underside. This carefully balanced composition brings a quiet sense of movement and the atmosphere of a Japanese mountainside awakening in spring. Bracken fern is a familiar spring motif in Japanese art and poetry, representing new growth, vitality and renewal. Its tightly curled young shoots gradually unfurl as the season advances, making them a fitting symbol of developing strength and fresh beginnings. The dandelion leaves further emphasise the resilience and natural energy of spring. Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique in which gold or silver powder is applied to wet lacquer to create intricate designs. The subtle metallic tones used here complement the glossy black surface without appearing overly elaborate, giving the piece a calm elegance suitable for the tea ceremony. Souin Nakamura is a lacquer artist who has worked in the tradition of Kaga maki-e for more than twenty years. He studied under Kaga maki-e artist Bunshu Toyoshima and also received instruction from his father, the distinguished woodcraft artist and Living National Treasure Ryozo Kawakita. Nakamura is known particularly for finely crafted tea ceremony utensils, including natsume tea caddies. The tea caddy is accompanied by its original signed tomobako wooden storage box, bearing the artist’s handwritten title, signature and seal. A protective cloth, lacquerware care instructions and a printed artist biography are also included. The tea caddy and original wooden box are in very good vintage condition with minimal signs of age and handling. The protective cloth shows creasing from long-term storage.
