关于

Circa 1573–1619, Wanli period of the Ming dynasty. A lobed Kraak-style dish made for the Chinese export market, decorated in underglaze blue and white.

The central reserve depicts two pheasants facing one another amid flowering plants and rocks, forming an elegant garden scene in the tradition of Chinese bird-and-flower painting. The paired birds symbolize harmony, companionship, and marital happiness, while the flowers and rocks convey natural vitality and refined taste. The British Museum also holds a comparable Kraak porcelain dish whose central decoration is described as a pheasant standing beside rocks, surrounded by camellias and other flowering branches and foliage. Such designs ultimately derive from the tradition of Chinese bird-and-flower painting.

The segmented border is decorated with floral, fruit, and leafy motifs.

Provenance: The dish bears a label from Polly Latham Asian Art, Boston, Massachusetts, and was formerly in the Helen Silver Collection. There is a small hole in the foot rim for hanging. Minor glaze wear and minute frits are present along the rim.

Diameter: 8 in. (20.32 cm)
Height: 1 3/8 in. (approximately 3.49 cm)
